1st Design Mechanical Caliper Mount
March 2008

A first brake system design used go-cart mechanical calipers, rear axle mounted disc, and a sheathed steel cable. The cable was attached to a brake handle made from bicycle handle bars and steering tube. The cable stretched too far to effectively activate the calipers when the handle was pulled back.

The second design replaced the rear mechanical calipers with a hydraulic set. These are actuated by a hand lever mounted to the original brake handle. A new disc and the mechanical calipers were moved to the primary jack-shaft. The mechanical calipers are actuated through a solid rod when the brake handle is pulled back.
